Patch for Apple Safari for Windows

If you use Apple's Safari browser for Windows, be aware that Apple has issued Safari 5.1 and Safari 5.0.6 updates that fix at least seven security bugs, including integer overflows in their ColorSync and CoreGraphics functions, that may allow attackers to slip in hostile code via graphics or fonts. Critical Windows Bug Gets Patched

Microsoft released 16 security bulletins today, nine of which they have labeled Critical. The Microsoft Security Response Center blog highlights four as the most important. One of them, MS-042, fixes two bugs in the Microsoft Distributed File System that may allow an attacker to remotely run hostile code on your computer. It affects Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Wndows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows Server 2008. Find out more for your version of WIndows here.

Playing and Recording TV Simultaneously Causes Windows 7 Crash

Microsoft says that if you are playing TV content at the same time that you are recording it on a Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 computer, you may get a crash with one of two error messages:
STOP: 0x0000007E ( parameter1 , parameter2 , parameter3 , parameter4 ) 
SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
or
STOP: 0x0000000A ( parameter1 , parameter2 , parameter3 , parameter4 ) 
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

Bug Stops Windows 7 SP1 Installation

Microsoft says that during the installation of Windows 7 SP1, you may be brought up short by a 

"0xC0000034" error message. Microsoft says this happens because the installation tries to do the same procedure twice, and manages to confuse itself. Microsoft has hotfix information here.

Microsoft Conspires Against Vacation Time with Massive Patch Tuesday

Microsoft wants to keep IT people busy in August - Patch Tuesday saw them release 14 security bulletins, that fix 34 different bugs. Eight of these bulletins are marked Critical, and of those, Microsoft said that four of them are especially important. They are:  MS 10-052, fixing a bug in their MPEG Layer-3 audio codecs; MS 10-055 fixing a bug in the  Cinepak Codec in Microsoft Media Player; MS 10-056, fixing four bugs in Office; and MS 10-060, which fixes Microsoft .NET Framework and Microsoft Silverlight.  For a change, the most critical problems aren't in Internet Explorer.

Windows and Office Critical Updates for Patch Tuesday

Microsoft will be releasing four security bulletins on July's Patch Tuesday (July 13th). Two of them are critical patches for Windows, covering Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows 7, and Windows Server 2008 R2. Two patches are for Microsoft Office, one critical and one important. These are for Office XP Service Pack 3 and Office 2003 Service Pack 3.

Using MobileMe with Windows

If you are trying to sync Apple MobileMe with Windows, be aware of some limitations. First, contact syncing will only work with Outlook 2003 and 2007, Outlook Express (Win XP), and Windows Contacts (Vista). You can only sync calendars that are in Outlook 2003 and 2007, and bookmarks can only be synced with Safari and Internet Explorer. (Sort of get the feeling that Apple wants to exclude Mozilla?) Apple Patches a Safari Graphics Bug

Apple has an update for Safari 4 for Windows XP and Vists. It patches a bug in CoreGraphics that may allow an attacker to design a graphics file that could cause a crash or may allow hostile code to run.
