What Else in OS X 10.6.8?

According to Apple - the Mac OS X 10.6.8 update also includes an update to the App Store that will allow you Mac to get an upgraded OS the easy way (I don't know - is there ever an easy way to upgrade an OS?) It also includes some fixes for IPv6 as well as improved VPN performance. It also helps clean up MacDefender malware.

Last Bow for Snow Leopard with 10.6.8 Update

In what is probably the last update for Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, Apple has released the 10.6.8 update. It plugs a security hole that may let an attacker on the same WiFi network (such as that suspicious looking guy over on the other side of Starbucks) trigger a system restart on your computer. It also fixes a bug in the Certificate Trust Policy that may let someone with a "privileged network position" to intercept your credentials. There's more Apple bug patching details here.

Firefox 5 and Adobe Reader Problems

If you are using Mozilla Firefox 5 on a Microsoft Windows computer, you may have instability problems with the Adobe Reader X when you try to read PDFs in your browser. According to the Firefox 5 release notes, uninstalling and then reinstalling Adobe Reader should fix this.

Firefox 5 and Slow GMail Scrolling

According to the Mozilla Firefox 5 release notes, you may find that scrolling in the main Google GMail window may be slower than normal. They hope to have this fixed in a later release.

Firefox Incompatible with Google Toolbar

The new Mozilla Firefox 5.0 is not compatible with the Google Toolbar for Firefox  7.1.20101113Mb1, and and this point there is not a compatible update for it.

Apple AirPort Quits During Set-up

The Apple AirPort Utility 5.5.3 update fixes a bug that would sometimes cause the setup routine to quit while it is being installed. You can get the update via Software Update, or you can get it manually from here.

Patch for IE 6 through 8

Microsoft's Security Bulletin MS11-050 fixes Critical bugs in Internet Explorer 6 through 8. This fix patches up some holes that may allow attackers to remotely run hostile code on your computer. Note that the recently-released IE 9 is not affected by this bulletin.

Critical Windows Bug Gets Patched

Microsoft released 16 security bulletins today, nine of which they have labeled Critical. The Microsoft Security Response Center blog highlights four as the most important. One of them, MS-042, fixes two bugs in the Microsoft Distributed File System that may allow an attacker to remotely run hostile code on your computer. It affects Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Wndows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows Server 2008. Find out more for your version of WIndows here.

Today is Patch Tuesday

Today is Patch Tuesday - and Microsoft's advance warning of what fixes are in the pipeline is extensive this month. Get ready for critical updates for Windows, .NET Framework, Silverlight, and Internet Explorer, and Important patches for MS Office.

IE 9 Print Preview Problems

Microsoft points out that Internet Explorer 9 speeds up some webpage rendering by moving  some of the processing to the graphics processor. If you have an outdated video driver, it could affect the print preview functions, or even the printing of a webpage. See some of the workaround suggestions from Microsoft here.
