Yesterday, I was the proud new owner of Microsoft Office 2008 for the Mac. Today, I am really mad. For some reason, Copy and Paste doesn't work between Word for the Mac and Adobe Dreamweaver CS3. It's apparently a well-known bug, as two minutes of Googling can attest. There are some really clunky workarounds at the moment - that make it very inefficient for taking documents my clients send to me, and then turn them into web pages. I guess that's what I get for dealing with fly-by-night companies such as Microsoft, Adobe, and Apple. Not sure who is to blame - I can copy and paste from Word into other programs, and from other programs into Dreamweaver, but not directly.

Make Safari and MSN Hotmail Get Along

When using Apple Safari as your browser, you may have trouble going to your MSN Hotmail account. Instead of seeing your mail, you may see a message saying
"Safari Can't Open the Page - Too many redirects...."
According to Apple, what you need to do is tell Safari to accept cookies. From the Safari menu, click Preferences -> "Security". Where it says  "Accept cookies:"choose "Always."

Apple Binds Up the Bind Hole

The Apple Security Update 2008-005 for Mac OS X 10.4.11, Mac OS X Server 10.4.11, Mac OS X 10.5.4, and Mac OS X Server 10.5.4 has a patch for BIND. There's a bug in BIND that makes it susceptible to DNS cache poisoning. This can be a dangerous bug in that it may allow a malicious site to impersonate the site you want. Windows Color Management System Bug

The Microsoft Image Color Management (ICM) system in Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows Server 2003 have a critical security hole. It may allow an attacker to sneak malicious code onto your computer hidden within an image file. If the user has Administrator privileges, the attacker may be able to take complete control of the computer. Download patches for your version of Windows here.

Microsoft Patches Critical PowerPoint Bug

Microsoft issued a patch for a critical bug in PowerPoint 2000 through 2007. A security hole in PowerPoint may allow an attacker to sneak hostile code onto your computer if you open a malicious PowerPoint file.

Russia Sending in the Hackers Along with the Tanks

According to many different news sources, Russia is not only sending in the tanks to Georgia, it is sending in the hackers as well. "A coordinated cyber attack against Georgia’s Internet infrastructure" is being conducted. Here's one roundup of what's happening.

Adobe Presenter Update

Adobe says that Presenter 6 and 7 are vulnerable to a cross-site scripting bug that may allow a website to spoof another site. You will need to update to Adobe Presenter 7.0.1. Get it here.
